Coptic Bookbinding Instructor: Nicole Eiland, www.ei-ni.com Date and Time: Sunday, November 4, 11AM-3:30PM Fee: HRT Members $65 Nonmembers: $80 This one day workshop teaches the coptic binding, one of the oldest bookbinding techniques. This binding is great for sketch books, journals, etc. because the book lays flat when opened. We start with a short introduction about bookbinding and book art. We then start to make one to two simple book structures with soft covers and bind a larger book with the coptic stich and hard covers. Participants will discover foundations in bookbinding and book arts. We also explore a diversity of materials and the use of tools of classical bookbinding. Goal of this class: participants will create one hard cover book and 1-2 soft cover books, and hopefully go home filled with ideas and inspiration.
